Close Window

In several cases, when designing pages for your site, it may be appropriate to have a 'close' option (a link that, when a visitor clicks it, closes the current window). Such pages might include:

  • Success Pages
  • Thank You Pages
  • Offer Pages
  • Pop-ups
  • Announcements

Generally speaking, 'standalone' pages, especially those spawned from your main pages, are generally ideal pages on which to feature the 'Close Window' script.

An example, from Amazon.com, of using a close-window script:

Used in conjunction with the 'Open Link in New Window' script, this script can be very effective. For example, you might have a link advertising details of, say, a 'one-time offer, valid for today only'.  On clicking this link, causing an advertisement page to pop up in the foreground, it would be very useful to include a 'Close Window' link on this new page - closing this offer window effectively returning the visitor to the main site pages.

Instructions

Selecting this script from the list of scripts, and clicking the button loads the following screen:

There is only one item you need to set for this script, and that's the link text to be used. Suitable examples might include:

  • Close Window
  • Return to Previous Page
  • Back to Main Site
  • Go Back
  • No Thanks

On entering this text, click the button to insert the script into your Web page at the cursor-point.
